Gothic Couture: This Is Grim Reapers Glamour

Gothic Couture: This Is Grim Reapers Glamour

Grim Reapers Glamour is a gothic couture brand, specializing in handbags and accessories. Cultivating the beauty of 90s art forms, these pieces are designed for the alternative and fashion obsessed. A spooky twist on throwback shapes and styles. This is Grim Reapers Glamour.

On that note, join us in welcoming the face of Grim Reapers Glamour to the blog! Introducing Jacky Wassner 🖤

"I am from Guatemala & adopted. I was raised in New Jersey in a completely different environment then I was destined and that is something I never take for granted. I was a very depressed kid. Art was my escape from everything. As a child with severe learning disabilities, art was something I understood I could do without being made to feel different, or unintelligent by a teacher. After dropping out of high school, cosmetology school & becoming a young mother, I decided to make art my full time career in 2017.

I grew up in the late 90’s and was a teenager during peak “scene kid” days. I never cared for fashion as much as I loved makeup and accessories. In high school, I always wore sweatpants, band-shirts, and a backpack fully decorated in my friends drawings. My designs are a combination of all my favorite eras and styles. The Alt/Goth community has welcomed me with the biggest wave of support and everyday I’m so grateful this is my job."

1. What pieces were a part of your first drop?

"Our handcrafted spiderweb handbag were our first official launch. I filmed the entire process of making them and it became our first viral handbag. When creating our spiderweb handbags, I never imagined such a following from one design but I am so happy people saw my vision from the beginning. I love creating my idea of a timeless everyday handbag that can go with any outfit or be that pop of fun for people like myself who aren’t into dressing up everyday."

2. Were other brand names considered before Grim Reapers Glamour? If so, what were they?

"For a short time, we had Grim Reapers Glamour Vanity as an option but I decided it was too long. I wanted a name that had a familiarity to the older myspace handle names but something that feels high end. I was that weird kid who would read paranormal and mythical creators books so I thought it all mixed together nicely."

 3. Name two artists that inspire you.

"My tattoo artist Jessa Bigelow is one of my biggest inspirations. I watched her go from working into a small tattoo shop in New Jersey to watching her on Inked Master to now owning her own shop Gallery of Ink alongside her husband.

Deceits is a latino goth band coming up in the scene and sharing their story on social media showing one day at shows and the next right back to a regular 9-5 job which is something I think is aspiring to chase your dreams while still showing what the reality is still for smaller bands."

4. Are all designs created by you? What is your production process?

"Yes. All our handbags are either handcrafted by me or designed by me then manufactured overseas. On our website, each product will list if it's Handcrafted or Designed by GRG. When designing or handcrafting collections, I will isolate myself for a few days and rewatch my favorite spooky shows or movies, blast my favorite albums, sketch, and make purses from paper or scrap fabric which can sometimes sit in drawers for a few weeks, months or years until I am satisfied with every detail."

5. What is your most favorite piece you’ve created?

"My favorite piece I created is our fluffy bat tote crossbody. I wanted to design a bag that was a perfect mixture of 90’s and Alt/Goth fashion. I tend to just throw things in my bag, so when making this one I made sure to include several pockets and add an extension to the zipper. It has a wider opening and is easier to close when you stuff too many things in your bag."

6. What’s your preference: Lipstick or a liquid lip?

"Probably both. I mix a lot of lip products to do my everyday lip I find sometimes one product doesn’t always give me the color or dimension I’m looking for."

7. What’s in your bag? Three items you ALWAYS have on you.

"I always have a makeup bag full of lip liners and glosses, a handheld mirror & a cute pen/notebook."

8. If someone wanted to model or create with Grim Reapers Glamour, how should they contact you?

"The best way to reach us through our email grimreapersglamour@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you."

9. What can people expect to see next from Grim Reapers Glamour?

"We always have lots of fun things in the works. For the holidays, we are bringing back our mystery bags, which are perfect for people who want a gift for themselves or a friend but can’t decide what to get from our site. The most exciting launch I am currently working on is one of our biggest collections featuring a mixture of our handcrafted spiderweb handbags I designed. I have been working on the designs for a year and I can’t wait to show everyone once it's out. I am hoping they will be available early 2025."

10. What’s the last song you listened to?

"Don’t Despair By Vick Vapors."
