We're here today to give you the tools to master one of makeups *tougher* product applications. This is How To Wing It: The Art Of Winged Eyeliner.
If you’ve ever wanted a dramatic, bold wing, but haven't known where to start, you’re in the right place. This isn’t about perfection, it’s about making a statement. Grab your liner and let’s practice!
Step 1: Prep Your Canvas
Whether you're starting with a clean face or makeup base, make sure to prep your canvas. This can look like using an eyelid primer or simply, a finished eye look (for our glam ghouls). Once you make sure your eyeshadow or base is set, it's time to break out your favorite shade of Batty Liner (we recommend Midnight/Black).
Step 2: Craft Your Wing
*We recommend liquid liner for precision, but you're welcome to use pencil or gel. Whatever works best for YOU!
Starting near the outer corner (just off of it to the right or left works best), draw a line up and out as if you're extending from the point where your nose ends on the same side (not the center). While this is NOT an exact science, it's an awesome place to start and become more comfortable with your personal angle style and more.
*At this point you have the initial line. If you have hooded eyes, make sure you're being cautious with this next line and how the wet liner will sit until dry. It can get messy if you aren't careful!
Next, line your eyelid with a thin amount of liner from inner corner to outer. Thicken to your liking. The last and final line will complete your wing outline. Draw a line from the tip of your first line to roughly the center of your lid. You now have your liner ready to be filled.
Step 3: Liner Fill + Tweak
Once you have the shape, it's time to bring your wing to life. The general shape doesn't have to be perfect, but definitely helps in making sure both sides are the same size and shape.
Fill it in! Don't be afraid to go bolder, whether in size or thickness. You can tweak as needed, but this is why we started small. Never shy away from making your wings more glam or even catering to a downward curve for an edgy, slightly more sinister-siren look.
Clean up any mistakes with a fine, flat brush and concealer. Top it off with mascara or even some bold, vampiric lashes... the Vampire Girl lashes, perhaps? And that’s it! Your new found winged liner execution is ready to knock 'em UNDEAD. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Embrace the drama and your unique style. Try a new angle or placement to find what you like. There's no wrong way here. And this isn't the only technique.
As always, tag us in any and all of your looks! We can't wait to see your twist on this technique. Until next time. XOXO, Curst 🖤
