Interviewing Anthony Martinez of Dark Divine

Interviewing Anthony Martinez of Dark Divine

In honor of the Dark Divine x Curst Deadly Fun Artistry Palette launching, a deeper dive into the collaboration, what's next for DD, and some preferences with Anthony Martinez, vocalist of Dark Divine!

The DD x Curst collaboration launched July 15th and includes (1) Mirrored Artistry Palette with (12) Shades, (5) UV Water-activated Eyeliners, and (2) Brushes, all available here.

Next up: Our interview with Anthony Martinez of Dark Divine.

1. Where did the name Dark Divine come from?

"The name was one of several attempts at a spooky, 3 syllable name that was easy to remember. Truthfully there was no profound story on how the name came to be, but it did feel the “most correct” out of the options."

 2. When did Dark Divine come together?

"The original lineup was configured in May of 2021."

 3. Where is DD based?

"We are based in Orlando, Florida, though we are all individually from all over Florida. I (Anthony) live in Orlando, Robby and Cory are in the St. Pete area, and Triston is from St. Cloud."

 4. How did the Curst collaboration manifest?

"Being a Halloween based, makeup-wearing band, we have always had fans who are makeup artists and do recreations. I had wanted to release a makeup collaboration for a long time, but had no real connection until we saw the Curst x Motionless in White collab. Our manager had been tour manager and good friends with the Motionless guys for a while, so it was through them that we got the contact for Curst."

 5. What is a detail within the DD x Curst Collection that was important to you to incorporate?

"Having UV reactive, replaceable eyeliners would allow for fans to not only recreate eyeshadow looks, but also some of the full face looks that are present in my band. It’s a one stop shop to create any DD inspired look."

 6. What band(s) do you look up to the most?

"We look up to any bands to go the extra mile to stand out visually. Be it with makeup, costumes, or stage props, bands like KISS, Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills, and Avatar are unmistakable and identifiable. We strive to follow in those footsteps."

 7. Do you remember your first experience with makeup? If yes, what was it?

"I actually have a photo of the first time I attempted makeup for a concert. It was very bad, but it did pave the way for an appreciation of the craft and desire to learn more about it."

8. Where/who/what do you draw inspiration from in your creative endeavors? Music or otherwise.

"We have always been avid fans of horror, Halloween, SFX makeup and things of that nature, even before we formed Dark Divine. Therefore, it naturally found its way into our musical taste and inspired our sound/look."

 9. What beverages and snacks are your pre/post show must-haves?

"Uncrustables and beef jerky. Without a doubt."

 10. What’s your preference: Pencil/gel or liquid eyeliner?

"For water line, definitely pencil but for any designs or artwork, liquid."

 11. What’s your preference: Lipstick or a liquid lip?

"Without a doubt, liquid lip. The pigment and durability are incomparable."

 12. Who is an underrated artist or band you think deserves more love? In the scene or otherwise.

"I will always be an advocate for my friends in the band Not Enough Space. They have been busting their ass cultivating a community and writing banger after banger. Highly underrated and much recommended."

 13. What can fans expect to see next from Dark Divine?

"We are going to be writing an album at the end of these upcoming tours and we are very excited to be performing at 2024 Inkcarceration and Apocalypse Fest."

 14. Anything else you’d like to share:

"Be sure to pre-save and listen to our newest single, Digital Numb. It is to be released July 19th and debut on day 1 of Inkcarceration."
